EXPECTED ARRIVAL DATES:
Students are recommended to arrive within 1 week to 3 days of
the beginning of courses.
APPLICATION, VISA AND REGISTRATION PROCESS:
The average age of our student body is 31 years, with an average
work experience of 3 years plus. Our expectation is that partner
and other institutions nominate students with a similar profile.
Once nominated, we would supply students with
a letter offering them a place on the MBA programme, a University
of Cape Town application form for completion, and an information
pack which would include course information.
The University of Cape Town is prohibited from
registering foreign students unless they are in possession of
a valid study permit. Students must apply for a South African
study visa/entry permit through the nearest South African Embassy,
Consulate or Trade Mission, and should include a copy of the
letter offering them a place as an exchange student, together
with a brief motivation of their reasons for wanting to study
in South Africa. As two months are usually allowed for study
permits to be processed students should request the South African
authorities to make every effort to expedite proceedings. Students
must produce their study permits on arrival.
LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION:
English.
RESIDENCE:
Accommodation, which includes two meals per day, is provided
on campus in:
* A single bedroom/study sharing facilities with one other student
in an adjoining room, OR
* A suite consisting of bedroom/study and adjoining lounge with
private shower, wash basins and toilet.
Students wishing to arrange their own housing should plan to
arrive in advance. Should they wish to book in for a week while
private accommodation is found, students must deal directly
with the Breakwater Lodge as commercial guests.
APPROXIMATE LIVING COSTS:
Tuition waived for institutions with which we have a formal
bilateral exchange agreement
R600,00 per credit for institutions with whom we do not have
a formal bilateral exchange
Accommodation R150.00 per day (inclusive of VAT and two meals)
for a single bedroom/study
R200.00 per day (inclusive of VAT and two meals) for a suite
Amenities R450.00 per term (to cover costs of tea, coffee, functions,
etc)
Books & notes Charged per course (dependant upon course
material supplied)
Personal expenses Approximately R2 500,00 - R3 500,00 per month
HEALTH CARE:
Student health services are available, which provide routine
health care. We do not have a specific insurance scheme and
it would be advisable for students to take out medical insurance
themselves, to cover any emergencies which may occur.
FACILITIES:
Excellent Library services, limited access to 24 hour computer
facilities (e-mail, world wide web), a cocktail bar, a self-service
restaurant, student bar, a book shop - all on the Breakwater
Campus. A major tourist attraction, the Waterfront, is on our
doorstop and Cape Town's famous Table Mountain overlooks the
School, the City and the Harbour. Students may make use of the
University's sports facilities on the main campus, or private
arrangements may be made with the Health and Racquet Club nearby.
Students may participate in the Placement Programme
by attending presentations, and are given an opportunity to
present their CVs to organisations. We have several multinational
organisations which may be able to assist your students, should
they be recruiting on campus while your students are attending
courses here.
